Restore and decorate your concrete with The ORIGINAL Solid Color Stain, a premium water-based decorative concrete stain made especially for use with existing, unsealed, interior or exterior concrete surfaces. Solid Color Stain is NOT a paint. The advanced polymer-modified formula penetrates the surface of porous concrete (as deep as the surface pores) and forms an opaque (solid), breathable finish that requires no sealer.

The ORIGINAL Solid Color Stain can be used to restore previously colored surfaces or to rejuvenate old, tired-looking concrete by completely covering discolorations or stains. It can be used on concrete flatwork, vertical surfaces, concrete blocks, pavers, imprinted concrete, exposed aggregate, and many other cementitious surfaces. It can also be used with sandblasting stencils. It is perfect for use over micro-toppings and overlays.

It may be used on a variety of substrates, including concrete, masonry, pavers, brick and stucco. Not recommended for non-porous substrates, e.g. metal, porcelain, glass, fiberglass.

Coverage and Packaging: The ORIGINAL Solid Color Stain is a unique 4-part kit that, once mixed and applied, has an extremely tenacious bond with the substrate. For additional images of the Solid Color Stain, visit the Photo Gallery. Read the respective Technical Information Sheet for more information.

The large size (32 oz.) kit covers approximately 350-400 square feet (32 square meters) twice*. Stamped and very porous surfaces may yield 250-350 sf twice. Smooth interiors may yield up to 500 sf twice.*

The small size (4 oz.) kit covers approximately 45-50 square feet (4 square meters) twice*.

*An average of two coats (of 350-400 sq. ft.) are recommended to create a solid, opaque finish. A semi-transparent finish can be created using only one coat (of 700-800 sq. ft.).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I HAVE to seal the Solid Color Stain?
A: Nope. Of course, there is always a time and place for everything. See below.

Q: Can I seal the Solid Color Stain?
A: Yes, you can. It is compatible with many sealers. But we recommend you avoid sealing it if possible. Sealing compromises its maintainability since you are at the mercy of a sealer when you do follow-up maintenance applications (unless you use the NewLook Concrete Maintenance Sealer). If there is a concern about longevity then go ahead and seal it. Note: you must seal the Enhancers.

Q: Are NewLook's Concrete Color Stains permanent?
A: Seriously? C'mon, nothing you put on concrete is absolutely permanent. Sealers, micro-toppings, stains--they all need to be maintained. Even concrete itself breaks down over time and needs to be cleaned, revitalized or even replaced. After all, you wouldn't buy a brand new car and never wash it, right? Likewise, concrete surfaces must also be maintained because they take such a beating from the elements. NewLook's stains have a compelling value proposition; they are an integral part of a comprehensive system of concrete maintenance solutions that allow you to easily and conveniently maintain the image of your concrete. However, sealing NewLook stains with the Concrete Maintenance Sealer will indeed increase the longevity of the stain.

Q: How long does the Solid Color Stain last?
A: It depends on the wear and tear of the surface. For example, a stained driveway with moderate-to-heavy traffic might look great up to 2 to 5 years before you might want to revitalize it. Since the Solid Color Stain is the most maintainable concrete stain on the market you do not have to spend time or money stripping a sealer (unless you've sealed it with something other than our Maintenance Sealer). Simply pressure-wash and apply a single coat of stain, which translates into half the cost and time of the original application. Of course, this is assuming your concrete doesn't necessitate additional preparation.

*Coverage rates will vary and are based on surface porosity, concrete texture, temperature, and method of application. Use a NewLook Applicator Brush to apply Solid Color Stain, Clear 32, Concrete Sealer, Eco Acid, Concrete Degreaser, and Concrete Cleaner. The Translucent Color Enhancer can be applied with virtually any tool, including the NewLook Applicator Brush. Contact your local supplier for product pricing and availability.
