Get Sustainable with NewLook's Eco-Friendly Concrete Stains & Polishing Systems
NewLook's products can help professional installers qualify for LEED certification under Indoor
Air Quality Section 4.2 – Low Emitting Materials: Paints & Coatings and Sustainable Sites 7.1 – Heat Island Effect, Non-Roof for New Construction, Existing Buildings, Schools & Core & Shell.
NewLook Concrete Color Stains include the Solid Color Stain, CoolStain, Translucent Color Enhancer, Designer Series Enhancer and Clear 32. They are water-based, polymer-modified formulas used for premium concrete color staining, durability and penetration. These eco-friendly stains help reduce your environmental footprint because they are non-reactive, non-caustic, non-acrylic, have a neutral pH and are used to get longer life out of new and existing concrete surfaces as restoration, repair and decorative solutions. They contain no VOCs. And they are manufactured and shipped in concentrated, undiluted form, which minimizes resource consumption during transportation. They are breathable and allow concrete to naturally absorb carbon dioxide. They penetrate the surface of porous concrete and form an opaque (solid) or semi-transparent, breathable finish that does not require hazardous or environmentally damaging sealers (Solid Color Stain and CoolStain).
NewLook has been a member* of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a 501(c)(3) non profit composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. USGBC has developed the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. The LEED Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.
NewLook's range of environmentally friendly products comply with Rule 1113 of California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) limits. These are the mandatory requirements set by the USGBC LEED program for Indoor Environmental Quality.
Solid Color Stain™ is used frequently to fix integrally colored concrete, which eliminates the consumption of resources required to replace a concrete slab. Solid Color Stain (like all Concrete Color Stains) is installed by hand, not with energy-consuming machinery. It is a “green” product that meets strict environmental and health standards in the US. May contribute to earning LEED points for Indoor Environmental Quality, 4.2 Low Emitting Materials, Paints & Coatings since it contributes no VOCs.
CoolStain™ is a patent-pending formula with infrared reflective properties that reduce the surface temperature of stained concrete exposed to sunlight. CoolStain keeps concrete cooler by up to 50 degrees, reducing the urban heat island effect (left image) and contributing to lower energy consumption. It is completely opaque and can be used to restore previously colored surfaces or to rejuvenate old, tired-looking concrete. Perfect for pool decks and municipal property. It is a “green” product that meets strict environmental and health standards in the US. May contribute to earning LEED credits under the Sustainable Sites category 7.1 Heat Island Effect, Non-Roof for New Construction, Existing Buildings, Schools and Core and Shell. VOC content: 0
Translucent Color Enhancer™ and Designer Series Enhancer™ are semi-transparent stains used to faux finish and transform concrete into works of art. Professional installers use the Enhancers™ as a much safer and inexpensive alternative to acid stain or marble. They help minimize your environmental footprint since acid stain is a highly corrosive and reactive material and supplying marble necessitates a great deal of resource consumption. May contribute to earning LEED points for Indoor Environmental Quality, 4.2 Low Emitting Materials, Paints & Coatings since it contributes no VOCs.
EcoAcid™ is a water-based, non-corrosive concrete and profiling compound. It is an effective, non-fuming alternative to harsh acids like muriatic acid (HCl). Eco-Acid is environmentally friendly, non-toxic, non-hazardous, and safely prepares concrete surfaces by opening up the pores without the need of energy consuming machinery. May contribute to earning LEED points for Indoor Environmental Quality, 4.2 Low Emitting Materials, Paints & Coatings since it contributes no VOCs.
EasyStrip™ is a biodegradable, non-hazardous, eco-friendly coating remover that breaks down when exposed to water. EasyStrip decomposes naturally and does not damage the environment. May contribute to earning LEED points for Indoor Environmental Quality, 4.2 Low Emitting Materials, Paints & Coatings since it contributes no VOCs.
Use NanoSet™ Polishing System for a Sustainable, Maintainable and Durable Finish
Using exposed concrete is an environmentally friendly way to eliminate the consumption of resources required to make and replace applied floor coverings, such as carpet or linoleum. In most cases, concrete already exists as part of the original construction or underneath a floor covering. Exposed concrete helps reduce the use of energy during the summer and it outlasts most floor coverings. Polished concrete is also an environmentally friendly alternative to natural stone flooring since it provides a similar visual effect and eliminates the environmental impact of quarrying stone.
Concrete absorbs carbon dioxide and does not emit VOCs. However, hazardous VOCs are found in many floor coverings or the adhesives used to apply them. Using exposed concrete improves indoor air quality problems due to sealers, polishes, chemical strippers and waxes needed to maintain other types of flooring.
NewLook increases these sustainable benefits with our revolutionary NanoSet Polishing System. Densifiers based on silicates and siliconates are highly caustic, making them dangerous to handle. And they form a chemical slurry byproduct that requires an inconvenient disposal process since it's a hazardous material. NanoSet products are based on the advanced technology of colloidal silica and have a lower pH; so they are safer to handle, penetrate concrete quickly, and do not leave a dangerous residue. NanoSet products contains no VOCs or harsh chemical solvents.
The Green Way to Winterize and Densifiy Your Concrete
The unique and technologically advanced silica in NanoSet products is manufactured using abundant raw materials. The clean manufacturing process does not release pollutants into the environment. It is shipped in concentrated form to reduce packaging and the impact of transportation on the environment. Using NanoSet Densifier to winterize your concrete helps reduce the consumption of resources used to replace damaged concrete. NanoSet products are inert substances that do not pose a high risk to health when exposure occurs at low levels.
NanoSet solutions are spray-applied or brushed, react quickly, and make the concrete ready for polishing the same day. This eliminates the overnight wait required by conventional densifiers and reduces transportation-related energy consumption. May contribute to earning LEED points for Indoor Environmental Quality, 4.2 Low Emitting Materials, Paints & Coatings since it contributes no VOCs.
